The USS Alabama sits just off the causeway in Mobile, Alabama and I've taken lots of photos of her and on her. She and those she transported have a storied history. As the fourth and final member of the South Dakota class of fast battleships, she played a crucial role during her service in the 1940s. One of her most poignant missions was assisting in Operation Magic Carpet, where she helped bring some 700 men home from the war zone.

I did this as a partial 'splash painting' and the rest as a combination of watercolor and acrylics which helped me to create a detailed depiction of her main gun turrets and superstructure which, I think, showcases the formidable presence she had on the seas. Today, anchored as a museum in Mobile, AL, the USS Alabama stands as a testament to the bravery and dedication of those who served aboard her.

It’s fascinating how art can preserve and honor such significant pieces of history, allowing us to appreciate and remember their legacy.
