Mr. Snuffles the Raccoon

This painting was such a fun project to work on. We have a raccoon who visits us almost every night at our barn. The ladies began calling him Mr. Snuffles and it stuck. When he first appeared, he would scamper away at the sight of us. But, since we never acted aggressive towards him, he soon calmed down and would watch us from the rafters. Every now and again, he'll show up with another raccoon who watches with what I think is fascination as he crawls down a pipe and over to a bowl of raccoon food (we checked with a vet to see what was healthy for them). The other raccoon doesn't come around often, and we've never attempted to pet Mr. Snuffles but we're always glad when they show up.

I wanted to capture the curious and mischievous nature of a raccoon. The face is the star of the show here, with its distinctive black and white mask and those sharp, attentive eyes that seem to be watching your every move.

I spent a lot of time on the fur texture, making sure each strand adds to the overall realistic yet stylized look. The background is kept simple and blurred to really make the raccoon’s face pop. It’s almost like this little guy is peeking out from the shadows, ready to explore and maybe get into a bit of trouble.

I hope when you look at this painting, you can feel the playful spirit and curiosity that raccoons are known for. I hope it's a little glimpse into the wild, right from the comfort of your home.
