Three Amigos (Friends) Horses

We have over a dozen horses, and most of them have a buddy they like to hang out with. But it’s rare to see three of them together in a row. So, when I saw three of them at our fence, I knew I had to capture this moment.

Horses are such large, gentle animals, but something most people don’t know is that they are highly empathetic. Their electromagnetic field interacts with other animals and humans in fascinating ways. A horse can actually ‘feel’ the heartbeat of a person from four feet away. When you’re nervous, their calmness can create peace within you. When you’re scared, they become more hypersensitive to the environment you share.

Horses are also highly protective of their herd members, and you can become one of them. They take turns sleeping, ensuring that one is always on guard. When you see a horse lying on the ground on a sunny day, you’ll often find three or more horses milling around in a circle or semi-circle. This way, the sleeping horse knows it’s protected by its friends who are looking, listening, and sniffing for danger. If they sense anything amiss, they’ll nudge the sleeper awake and be ready to run.
