The inspiration for Sunflower Sovereign came from a combination of my love for wildlife and the symbolic meanings behind certain elements. The African lion, for instance, is a powerful symbol of strength, courage, and grace. I wanted to capture that essence but also add a unique twist with the fiery mane, which to me represents the untamed and fierce nature of the lion.
The sunflowers in the background were inspired by their symbolism of beauty, happiness, hope, and warmth. I thought they would create a nice contrast with the lion’s intense gaze and fiery mane, adding a softer, more uplifting element to the painting. The cloudy sky above adds a bit of drama and depth, making the whole scene feel more dynamic.
My intention was to blend these elements to create a piece that feels both powerful and serene, capturing the wild beauty of nature in a way that’s both realistic and fantastical - the lion morphing into the sunflower (or is it the reverse). It’s a reflection of how I see the world—full of contrasts and unexpected beauty.
