Police Officer Mourning the Death of a Partner

Police officers, cops, boys and girls in blue, Five-O, Po-po or Smokey - whatever the nickname these brave folks have, they are trained to race towards danger while we run away from the same. When an officer falls, their death reverberates throughout their community. But, besides their immediate family, the one who mourns the most may be their partner (who is, by extension, also family).

I attended the funeral of an law enforcement officer and I happened to see something very similar to what I've depicted in this work of art. I engaged the officer after the service and I asked what he was thinking about. He told me (paraphrased), "Terry and I were partners for 12 years. I just don't know how I'm going to get over her dying the way she did."

It was most certainly a poignant moment.
