Horse of Many Colors

Have you ever been around an animal that is more of a partner than a pet? That’s what our horses are to us—they are partners in helping children and adults (including military veterans) who have special needs.

Most people don’t know that the difference between a horse and a pony is height. A pony is no more than 58 inches tall at its withers. Any taller and you’ve got a horse. A pony is simply a short horse, but they are still big animals—even a pony can weigh upwards of 800 pounds (or more), whereas a horse can weigh upwards of 2200 pounds.

But, while their size can be frightening, a well-socialized horse is one of the gentlest creatures you’ll ever meet. And, just like us, they all have their own personalities. When I created this portrait, I used many colors because horses simply don’t care about what we look like, if we can walk like others, if we talk (or don’t), or anything else about us—all they care about is if we are kind. There’s a quote that, paraphrased, says something about horses I tend to agree with:

“Horses are souls that walk with us, without judgment. They are what I wish more people were like.”

This vibrant and colorful portrait captures the essence of these gentle giants, reflecting their non-judgmental nature and the joy they bring to our lives. It’s a beautiful addition to any space, celebrating the unique bond between humans and horses.
