The concept for this painting came when I was walking around town at night and mist was just beginning to roll in and among the trees and shrubs, fireflies flitted around. They gave a mystical quality to the night. The cool air, mixed with the lamplight, the stillness (punctuated every now and again with a burst of laughter coming from one of the establishments) made everything look a bit mysterious but the fireflies made it almost seem magical.
