Africa’s rich and diverse ecology is home to some of the most majestic creatures, including the graceful giraffe. As a child, I cherished a story about a giraffe racing a motor car. Despite the car’s speed, it was the giraffe’s endurance that won the day, filling him with joy and prompting a celebration among the animals.

Though the book’s title has faded from memory over the decades, my admiration for these elegant beings remains as vivid as ever.

Creating this piece transported me back to those days of unbridled imagination and to a cherished moment when I petted a friendly giraffe—only to be playfully slimed by its long purple tongue!
