Carnations are always beautiful, but sometimes a burst of shockingly brilliant colors is just what’s needed. This abstract carnation captures that desire perfectly. Imagine the petals of this flower floating on a stream of vibrant, highly saturated hues that gently twirl and twist.

Inspired by a visit to a small inlet surrounded by lily pads and flowers, I took a photo of some of the most colorful blooms. I noticed the water had a slightly oily, multicolored sheen, which I incorporated into this painting.
