Alpha Unicorn Star (α Monoceros)
Regular price $169.99This painting was inspired by a fascinating bit of history. The Dutch astronomer, cartographer, and clergyman Petrus Plancius first displayed the Monoceros constellation on a globe map in 1612. It’s amazing to think that he discovered this constellation, even though it’s very faint and some 144 light years away from us. In 1624, a German astronomer included it in his star chart and listed it as “Unicornus.”
While the star chart doesn’t exactly resemble a unicorn, this is my interpretation. I imagined what the constellation might look like if it truly embodied the mythical creature. The vivid and varied colors—purples, blues, pinks, yellows—blend into each other in a swirling pattern, creating a magical and ethereal effect.
This painting is my way of connecting historical astronomical discoveries with modern artistic expression. I hope it brings a sense of wonder and imagination to your space, just as the story of Monoceros has inspired me.
